As a PhD student at the Department of Informatics you study to become a critical and independent researcher with in-depth knowledge of the subject, thorough knowledge of different research methods and a good understanding of the common research issues of the field and their practical application.

Should you wish to continue your studies after your master's degree, a doctoral education may be a possibility. This is a way to acquire high-level expertise in a specific area. The doctoral degree (PhD) is the most advanced academic qualification awarded in Sweden.

We offer two degrees: Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and Licentiate of Philosophy in Informatics. The PhD takes four years, including a thesis corresponding to 150 ECTS-credits (2.5 years) and a selection of courses corresponding to 90 ECTS-credits (1.5 year).
